Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Notably cooler and mainly dry conditions in the Midwest forecast and very little rain indicated for central Brazil are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

DRIER AND COOLER FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly dry conditions across the Midwest through the next two weeks. This pattern will favor corn and soybean harvest. Temperatures turn much lower during the late September-early October time frame. Any rain with the cooling will be light, offering only minor delays to harvest.

DRY SOUTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

Southern Plains crop and pasture areas will be dry over the next week. The dry trend will favor row crop harvest and winter wheat planting. However, soil moisture for early wheat development and fall livestock pasture is declining.

CONTINUED DRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, dry conditions remain in place through the next 10 days, favorable for harvest progress. Rain will be confined to isolated light showers.

SOUTHEAST HARVEST DISRUPTION

Moderate to heavy tropical system rain in the Delta and Southeast continues to disrupt harvest. Damage to open-boll cotton is also likely, along with flooding. The pattern turns drier and much cooler in the next 10 days.

DELAYED CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

Central Brazil crop areas have only isolated light showers in the forecast through the next week. The dry pattern is unfavorable for soybean planting. Southern Brazil continues with a wetter pattern through the seven-day period.

CONTINUED ARGENTINA RAIN PROSPECTS

Argentina continues with a forecast of moderate to heavy rain through the next five days. This would be significant for easing drought conditions in central and southern crop areas.

ONGOING DRIER PRAIRIES TREND

The Canadian Prairies have an ongoing dry forecast through the next week, favoring harvest. Light rain crosses southern areas during the next two days.

STORMY EUROPE FORECAST

Europe crop areas are in line for several periods of moderate to heavy rain during the next week. Rain will offer a recharge to soil moisture for winter grains planting and germination. However, the rain will disrupt summer crop harvest and may cause some crop damage.

MIXED BLACK SEA REGION RAIN

Russia and Ukraine wheat areas have a mixed rainfall forecast. Moderate rain is indicated for Ukraine in the next seven days, offering improved soil moisture for winter wheat planting. Russia, however, has a mainly dry pattern with very little improvement in the soil moisture profile for winter wheat.

SOUTHEAST AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Southeast Australia has continued scattered showers forecast during the next several days, offering useful soil moisture for developing to reproductive wheat and rapeseed. Queensland is still behind in rainfall and could use additional moisture.
