Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Ongoing dry conditions across the central U.S. and no indication yet of the central Brazil rainy season onset are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

STILL DRY IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a continued dry pattern across the Midwest through the next seven days. This combination remains favorable for crop ripening and harvest progress. This pattern also suggests that soil moisture recharge will be limited during the balance of the fall season.

WARM AND DRY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains crop areas will be warm and dry through the end of the month. This will be favorable for winter wheat planting and germination. However, drought is expected to expand across the entire region during the balance of this year.

MORE NORTHERN PLAINS WARMTH

In the Northern Plains, dry and warm conditions through the next week will benefit crop ripening and harvest. The drier trend will benefit livestock as well. Areas in drought are expected to continue in drought through the next three months.

VARIABLE DELTA RAIN

The Delta has variable rain forecast through the next week. Northern areas will be dry. Southern areas have moderate to heavy tropical rain forecast.

MIXED RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST

The Southeast has a mixed rain pattern in the next week. The western portion of the region has possible heavy rain from tropical activity. Locally heavy rain may cause some damage to cotton. Eastern areas will have light rain ahead.

SCATTERED BRAZIL SHOWERS

Central Brazil crop areas have scattered showers in the forecast through the next week. Light to locally moderate amounts offer minimal soil moisture. Widespread soybean planting is still expected to be delayed until late September at the earliest due to concern over the beginning of the rainy season. The average starting date for the central Brazil rainy season in the past 30 years is September 26.

ARGENTINA SHOWERS

Argentina has widespread showers but with light precipitation in the seven-day forecast. This offers only marginal benefit for soil moisture for wheat. Soil moisture is also short ahead of corn and soybean planting.

LIGHT PRAIRIES RAIN

The Canadian Prairies have light rain and above-normal temperatures in the seven-day forecast. This combination will favor harvest.

MINIMAL RUSSIA RAIN

Russia wheat areas have very little rain in the seven-day forecast. Wheat areas are in need of more moisture following a mainly warm and dry pattern during the past several weeks; In many locales, 60-day rainfall has totaled no more than 50 percent of normal.

RAIN FOR EASTERN AUSTRALIA

Eastern Australia wheat areas continue with a moderate to heavy rain forecast through the next seven days. Areas to benefit include: South Australia; interior New South Wales; and Queensland. Rainfall would be favorable for developing wheat. A few showers may also develop in Western Australia wheat areas.
