OMAHA (DTN) -- Only light rain in the western Midwest and questionable precipitation prospects in central Brazil are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

WESTERN MIDWEST DROUGHT EFFECT

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for no more than light rain over the western Midwest through the next week. Drought damage to crops is becoming more evident. Eastern and southeastern areas will see moderate to locally heavy rain with some crop benefit, mainly to soybeans.

MIXED SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

In the Southern Plains, periods of scattered showers are indicated during the next five days for most areas except the west and southwest areas. Some southeast sectors could see locally heavy rain due to Hurricane Laura. Temperatures continue to show a seasonal to above normal trend through the balance of the week.

NORTHERN PLAINS STORMS

In the Northern Plains, showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday will disrupt spring wheat harvest. The pattern turns drier through the weekend, which will be more favorable for harvest.

VARIABLE DELTA HURRICANE RAIN

In the Delta and Southeast, Hurricane Laura remnants have some locally heavy rain potential in the northern Delta over the next five days. The remainder of the Delta and most of the Southeast will have lighter rainfall.

LIGHT PRAIRIES RAIN

Light rain is in store for the Canadian Prairies through the next five days. Dryness is most prominent in Saskatchewan.

DRY CENTRAL BRAZIL TREND

Central Brazil crop areas have a dry pattern in store for the next week. This trend will be closely watched for possible change ahead of mid-September. The mid-September period is the official starting date for the beginning of soybean planting.

LIGHT RAIN FOR ARGENTINA

Most Argentina crop areas have short to very short soil moisture supplies. Light rain over the next five days will bring very little improvement.

VARIABLE AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Australia wheat areas have scattered light rain showers indicated through the rest of the week. Queensland is still in a drier pattern. Other wheat areas have adequate soil moisture.
