Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Promising rain indicated for the Midwest during the last of the month, and a dry trend in eastern Russia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

NEW RAIN PATTERN FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for Midwest crop areas to have a hot and humid weekend. The next week brings a high chance of widespread showers and thunderstorms along with more seasonal temperatures. Showers appear to be fairly widespread which would benefit all crops.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

Southern Plains crop areas have periods of showers over northern areas through the weekend. A front will slide southward through the region early next week with widespread showers. Tropical Storm Hanna is expected to bypass most of the region, with heavy rain indicated over far southern Texas and into Mexico.

DRIER TREND FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, scattered showers will continue through the weekend. A ridge west-trough east pattern is indicated for next week, which will reduce the rainfall over the region. Maturing spring wheat may actually benefit from a drier trend as we move into August.

SCATTERED DELTA-SOUTHEAST RAIN

Delta and Southeast crop areas have periods of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through the next seven days. Tropical system-related rain may also form, which will bear watching. Soybeans and cotton in reproductive phases need more moisture as temperatures remain in the 90s Fahrenheit and possibly higher through the weekend.

MIXED PRAIRIES RAINFALL

Canadian Prairies crop areas have scattered showers continuing to move across the region during the rest of the week. Moisture from the shower occurrences will benefit heading to filling wheat.

DRY IN EASTERN RUSSIA

In the Black Sea region through central Asia, the Volga Valley of Russia eastward will be dry through the next week. Stress to corn and sunflowers in reproduction along with some damage has been likely. In western Russia and Ukraine, prospects are much better as showers have been much more plentiful. Showers continue to be more limited through the middle of next week with better opportunities in Ukraine and northwest Russia.

SCATTERED EUROPE RAINFALL

Rain is indicated for most Europe crop areas through the weekend. Western Europe remains in greatest need of precipitation after a very dry late-spring and early summer period.

ONGOING DRY BRAZIL HARVEST PATTERN

In central Brazil, ongoing dry conditions will favor the safrinha corn harvest through the next week. The safrinha harvest in Mato Grosso is in its final 25% of progress.

SHOWERS FOR ARGENTINA

In central Argentina, showers will continue to spread over the country through Friday, bringing much-needed moisture for developing wheat. However, recent dryness has led to reduced planted wheat acreage.

BENEFICIAL EASTERN AUSTRALIA RAIN

In Australia wheat areas, moderate rain is in store for both western and eastern wheat areas over the next week. The rain will bring additional soil moisture for developing wheat.
