Commodities Market Impact Weather
Limited Midwest Heat Stress
OMAHA (DTN) -- A brief heat wave in the Midwest and beneficial rain for eastern Australia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
SHORT-TERM MIDWEST HEAT
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a brief round of stressful heat in the Midwest during this late week. This is not a long-lasting event, however. A new cool front early next week will bring some showers along with more normal temperatures. Showers appear to be fairly widespread as the front moves through, which would benefit all crops.
VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN
Southern Plains crop areas have variable rainfall in the seven-day forecast. Central and western Texas stay dry with little follow-up moisture after some recent rainfall. Other sectors of the region have moderate to locally heavy rainfall indicated. In addition, heavy tropical system-related rain is possible for southern Texas.
CONSISTENT RAIN FOR NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, showers and thunderstorms are in store through the next 10 days. Precipitation from the storms will generally benefit crops; however, severe storms will be a threat.

SCATTERED DELTA AND SOUTHEAST RAIN
Delta and Southeast crop areas have periods of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through the next seven days. Tropical system-related rain may also form, which will bear watching. Soybeans and cotton in reproductive phases need more moisture as temperatures remain in the 90s Fahrenheit and possibly hotter through the weekend.
MIXED PRAIRIES RAINFALL
Canadian Prairies crop areas have scattered showers continuing to move across the region during the rest of the week. Moisture from the shower occurrences will benefit heading to filling wheat.
EASTERN RUSSIA DRYNESS
In the Black Sea region through central Asia, the Volga Valley of Russia eastward will be dry. Stress to corn and sunflowers in reproduction along with some damage has been likely. In western Russia and Ukraine, prospects are much better as showers have been much more plentiful. Showers continue to be more limited through the middle of next week with better opportunities in Ukraine and northwest Russia.
POSSIBLE EUROPE SHOWERS
Rain is indicated across Europe crop areas through the weekend. Western Europe remains in greatest need of precipitation after a very dry late-spring and early summer period.
CONTINUED DRY BRAZIL HARVEST PATTERN
In central Brazil, a continued dry pattern for safrinha corn harvest is in the forecast through the next week. The safrinha harvest in Mato Grosso is in its final 25% of progress.
SHOWERS FOR ARGENTINA
In central Argentina, showers will continue to spread over the country through Friday, bringing much-needed moisture for developing wheat. However, behind the showers, temperatures will again fall below freezing and much of the showers will be too light to reverse recent dryness.
FAVORABLE EASTERN AUSTRALIA RAIN
In Australia wheat areas, moderate to locally heavy rain is in store for portions of the eastern wheat areas over the next week. The rain will bring additional soil moisture for developing wheat.
