Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Timely and beneficial rainfall moving through the Midwest, variable rainfall in the Midwest forecast, and the continued impact of dryness in wheat yields for Europe and Russia are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

WESTERN MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain that formed Tuesday through early Wednesday in the western Midwest to continue progressing through much of the region during the next two days. This moisture is timely for crops, notably in Iowa where July began on a dry note in the western half of that key production state. Temperatures vary over the next seven days from seasonal in northern and western areas to above normal in southern and eastern areas. Widespread heat stress is not indicated.

RAIN FORMS IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, moderate to heavy rain formed overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday. This moisture favors crops in reproductive stages. Driest areas of West Texas have been bypassed by this moisture, however.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN

Northern Plains crop areas continue with periods of rain in the forecast through the rest of the week. Rainfall combines with seasonal temperatures to benefit spring wheat and row crops.

HOT FOR DELTA AND SOUTHEAST

Delta and Southeast crop areas have mainly high temperatures with only isolated showers during the balance of the week. Adequate soil moisture remains for developing cotton and soybeans from previous rains, but some dryness may develop this week in spots due to increasing heat and isolated shower coverage.

MORE SHOWERS IN PRAIRIES

Showers and thunderstorms continue in the forecast for the Canadian Prairies. Precipitation from the storms may lead to some crop areas having excessive soil moisture. Temperatures will turn lower as well, leading to slower crop progress.

VARIABLE BLACK SEA RAIN

In the Black Sea region, scattered showers this week will benefit Ukraine and western Russia, but may be more isolated in areas farther east.

SHOWERS TO CROSS EUROPE

Light to locally moderate rain is still indicated for Europe crop areas during the next seven days. The rain will favor summer crops but will hinder wheat harvest. Wheat yields are already reduced because of a very dry spring.

DRY FOR BRAZIL HARVEST

In central Brazil, Mato Grosso has continued dry safrinha corn harvest weather in store through the rest of the week.

CHILLY AND DRY IN ARGENTINA

Argentina crop areas have a mainly dry pattern with very cool to cold temperatures in the forecast through the next two days. This pattern has led to a reduction of wheat acreage and is unfavorable for wheat that is in early development.
