Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Variable rainfall in the Midwest forecast and the continued impact of dryness in wheat yields for Europe and Russia are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a variable rain prospect in the Midwest over the next week. Heat will build across the region this week with decreased shower chances in the eastern Midwest, which may bring additional stress to corn entering the pollination phase. Better chances for periods of showers and storms will spread across the western Midwest this week with a favorable impact on corn and soybean conditions. This includes most of Iowa.

SCATTERED SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

In the Southern Plains, scattered showers and thunderstorms are indicated during the next few days. Locally heavy rainfall is possible in the eastern sector. Rainfall in western areas will bring minimal relief from drought. Hot and dry conditions remain very stressful in West Texas.

CONSISTENT NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN

Northern Plains crop areas continue with periods of rain in the forecast through the rest of the week. Rainfall combines with seasonal temperatures to benefit spring wheat and row crops.

DELTA AND SOUTHEAST HEAT

Delta and Southeast crop areas have mainly high temperatures with only isolated showers during the balance of the week. Adequate soil moisture remains for developing cotton and soybeans from previous rains, but some dryness may develop this week in spots due to increasing heat and isolated shower coverage.

COOL WITH SHOWERS IN PRAIRIES

Showers and thunderstorms continue in the forecast for the Canadian Prairies. Precipitation from the storms may lead to some crop areas having excessive soil moisture. Temperatures will turn lower as well, leading to slower crop progress.

REDUCED BLACK SEA WHEAT YIELD

In the Black Sea region, wheat yields continue to be lowered due to the impact of very dry conditions during the spring season. Dryness was most acute in eastern Ukraine and South Russia.

RAIN TO CROSS EUROPE

Light to locally moderate rain is indicated for Europe crop areas during the next seven days. The rain will favor summer crops but will hinder wheat harvest. Wheat yields are already reduced because of a very dry spring.

LIMITED CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

In central Brazil, Mato Grosso has additional dry safrinha corn harvest weather in store during this week.

ARGENTINA DRYNESS

Argentina crop areas have only light rain in store during the next week. This pattern is unfavorable for wheat.

MIXED AUSTRALIA RAIN PROSPECT

In Australia, scattered showers occurred over parts of the eastern wheat belt during the past weekend, helping soil moisture and irrigation reserves in these areas. This area will dry out again this week. Additional showers will move through southwestern Australia this week.
