Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Warm conditions with periodic showers in the Midwest and a hot and dry pattern for the Southern Plains wheat harvest are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

SCATTERED MIDWEST 10-DAY RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for seasonal to above-normal temperatures in the Midwest during the next week. Moderate to heavy rain in the last few days brought additional soil moisture for crops. This moisture will be called upon in the upcoming warmer and drier period. Scattered rain is indicated during the seven-to-10-day period, offering some moisture along with keeping temperatures from becoming stressfully hot.

DRY AND HOT IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains have a hot and dry pattern ahead through the next week. This combination favors winter wheat ripening and harvest. Meanwhile, the dry and hot pattern may be stressful to row crops. Irrigation demand will be high. Wildfire danger will be high during the weekend due to strong winds in addition to heat and dryness.

SHOWERS AND HEAT FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, very warm conditions are in store through the weekend. A new storm system moves through the region early next week. Moderate rainfall will be favorable for crop moisture. Additional showers are indicated during the balance of next week.

LIMITED DELTA RAIN

The Delta has an extensive period of drier conditions in the forecast for the next 10 days to two weeks. Crop stress may develop.

PERIODS OF RAIN IN SOUTHEAST

In the southeastern U.S., periods of rain continue in the forecast through the weekend. Heaviest rain will be in coastal areas. Scattered moderate showers continue across the region through Wednesday.

STORMY PRAIRIES WEEKEND

Canadian Prairies crop areas have a series of strong thunderstorms with high winds and locally heavy rain in store through the weekend. The moisture will benefit crops. However, some damage to crops and equipment is also likely.

STILL DRY IN RUSSIA

A heat wave in eastern Ukraine and Russia in the seven-day forecast will be stressful to crops. The impact could be especially noteworthy from South Russia through the Volga Valley and farther east into Kazakhstan.

NORTHERN EUROPE HEAT

Northern Europe has a heat wave in the forecast through the next week. This hotter trend will be stressful to crops, notably in Germany and Poland. Eastern and southeastern Europe have seen more favorable rain.

SOUTHERN BRAIL RAIN

In Brazil, rainfall remains confined to Parana and points southward through the week, a benefit to corn and cotton and developing wheat where flooding does not occur. Dryness in the north is favorable for safrinha corn harvest but will be stressful to late-filling crops.

NORTHERN ARGENTINA RAIN

Across Argentina, scattered moderate showers will continue over the north through the weekend, but southern areas will see little to no showers. Soil moisture is short in the central and south outside of Buenos Aires and some stress to emerging wheat may be occurring.

WIDESPREAD SHOWERS FOR AUSTRALIA

Australia wheat areas have widespread showers in the forecast through the weekend. This rain system will maintain favorable soil moisture for wheat crop development.
