Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- More heavy rain from former Tropical Storm Cristobal in the Midwest and a hot and windy pattern for Southern Plains wheat harvest are key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

HEAVY MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for former Tropical Storm Cristobal to bring heavy rain to the western and northern Midwest Tuesday through Wednesday. Some flooding is possible with this heavy rain; however, drier areas of the region will have beneficial moisture. Damaging winds are also possible with these storms. The pattern turns drier and cooler during the last half of the week.

HEAT AND WIND FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Hot and windy conditions are in store for the Southern Plains Tuesday and Wednesday. This combination favors winter wheat ripening and harvest. Far western areas have thunderstorms with severe potential as well.

NORTHERN PLAINS HEAT AND SHOWERS

In the Northern Plains, rain will be moderate to heavy in eastern sectors Tuesday. The heat looks to return again ahead of the next system this weekend, where additional moderate rainfall will help emerging to developing crops. Periods of showers may continue through next week as well.

VARIABLE DELTA RAIN

Northern Delta areas have more heavy rain from former Tropical Storm Cristobal Tuesday. An extended drier period is in store through the next week to 10 days following the tropical-origin rain. Stress to emerging cotton and soybeans may develop.

SHOWERS FOR SOUTHEAST

In the southeastern U.S., periods of rain continue in the forecast through the balance of the week. Scattered moderate showers continue across the region through Wednesday. Additional heavy showers are possible in coastal areas through the weekend.

BENEFICIAL PRAIRIES COMBINATION

Canadian Prairies crop areas will be dry this week after receiving widespread rain during the past seven days. A new rain system is indicated during the coming weekend. Crop conditions are favorable.

HOT WEEK IN BLACK SEA REGION

A heat wave in the Black Sea region this week will cause significant stress to the drier areas. However, some moisture coming off of the Black Sea could help induce showers over southern Ukraine and southern Russia later this week.

SHOWERS FOR EUROPE

Most of Europe will have scattered showers this week. A heat wave will likely develop over the north late this week into next week. If showers are not enough to provide adequate soil moisture earlier this week, stress will likely develop. River levels in Germany continue to be low due to very dry conditions during the past few months.

MORE SOUTHERN BRAZIL RAIN

In Brazil, rainfall remains confined to Parana and points southward through the week, a benefit to corn and cotton and developing wheat where flooding does not occur. Dryness in the north is favorable for safrinha corn harvest but will be stressful to late-filling crops.

DRY IN ARGENTINA WHEAT AREAS

Across Argentina, scattered moderate showers will continue over the north through the week, but southern areas will see little to no showers. Soil moisture is short in the central and south outside of Buenos Aires and some stress to emerging wheat may be occurring.

PROGRESSIVE AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Australia wheat areas have moderate rain in the forecast for midweek moving from west to east. This rain system will maintain favorable soil moisture for wheat crop development.
