Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Favorable conditions for Midwest crop growth, and a hot pattern leading to stress potential in Southern Plains wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

WARMER AND DRIER MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for continued rain through late week in the Midwest. Drier with very warm to hot conditions are featured in the six- to 10-day period. The heat will favor crop development due to ample soil moisture for crop growth.

HEAT FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Widespread rain in the Southern Plains the last several days has been beneficial to heading wheat in the west, while heavy downpours caused some flooding in the central and east. Showers remain in eastern areas through Thursday with more flood potential. Western areas, which still have moisture deficits, will see little to no showers. A hotter and dry trend is indicated for next week, which could cause some stress for the drier areas.

WARM NORTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

Northern Plains crop areas have showers in store through Thursday. A warmer and drier trend is featured through the final days of May into early June. Heat stress is expected to be minimal. The warmer and drier conditions will be favorable for completion of planting.

MORE DELTA RAIN

The Delta has continued showers and thunderstorms ahead through the balance of this week. Some crop stress from wet soils may develop. Cotton planting and emergence are running behind average.

TROPICAL RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST

Southeastern U.S. crop areas will have moderate to heavy rain due to Tropical Storm Bertha. The rain will improve soil moisture but will also cause some flooding and possible ponding out of some crop areas.

FAVORABLE TREND IN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, seeding has caught back up to the average pace for all but Manitoba, where progress still lags due to wet soils. Moderate showers to heavy rain fell last week for the drier sections of Alberta and Saskatchewan, boosting soil moisture for emerging crops. Cooler weather through Friday is not expected to produce any widespread frost. A warmer pattern shapes up for next week which should accelerate planting and crop growth. Showers may also increase, which would benefit emerging crops.

MIXED SHOWERS FOR BLACK SEA REGION

Across the Black Sea region, conditions continue to be quite favorable for heading wheat and developing corn and sunflower in Ukraine, where showers have been more plentiful. Some dryness is noted in western and southern Russia. Showers continue over the next several days in Ukraine, but limited showers are expected for Russia.

LIGHT WESTERN EUROPE PRECIPITATION

Western Europe received only light precipitation during the past week. Wheat crop prospects are declining due to the drier trend.

VARIABLE BRAZIL RAIN

Across Brazil, southern crop areas are in line for light to moderate rain through the next seven days. The rain is beneficial for winter corn in Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul. Lighter rain is featured in the forecast for Mato Grosso and Goias.

SCATTERED ARGENTINA SHOWERS

Argentina crop areas have scattered light rain in store through the balance of this week. The drier trend will be favorable for corn and soybean harvest progress and for continued wheat planting.

AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Western Australia wheat areas have beneficial showers in the forecast over the next week. Eastern areas have adequate moisture for crop development due to recent rainfall.
