Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Heavy rain with flooding in portions of the Midwest and generally favorable international wheat area conditions are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

WEEKEND MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate-to-heavy rain in the Midwest during the weekend. Flooding is likely in the southern and eastern areas. However, moisture will generally be favorable. A turn to warmer conditions will favor crop development after the recent cold pattern.

MIXED SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN FORECAST

In the Southern Plains, central and eastern sectors have additional rain expected through the weekend. The dry western sector will see only light precipitation. Drought is intensifying in this portion of the region.

SEASONAL NORTHERN PLAINS TREND

Northern Plains have periods of showers along with more seasonal temperatures during next week. This trend will offer some improvement in field drying for planting of row crops and spring wheat. Progress remains behind average due to very wet soils from heavy precipitation during the past 12 months.

SCATTERED DELTA SHOWERS

The Delta will have scattered showers through the next week. Developing crops will have favorable conditions.

DRY IN SOUTHEAST

Southeastern U.S. crop areas have little to no rain in store through the next week. This drier trend bears close watching for potential drought development.

LIGHT BLACK SEA SHOWERS

Wheat areas in the Black Sea region of Russia and Ukraine saw beneficial rain during the past week. Periods of light showers continue to be featured in the forecast during the balance of this week as well.

CENTRAL EUROPE RAINFALL

Central Europe crop areas have beneficial rain forecast through the weekend. Temperatures will be below normal to the north and above normal to the south. Developing to reproductive wheat and rapeseed to the south continue to see beneficial conditions but the southeast is starting to run some precipitation deficits that need monitoring.

VARIABLE BRAZIL RAIN

Brazil crop areas have a variable rain forecast during the next week. Moderate amounts are forecast in the far south, with light-to-moderate totals in central areas. The safrinha corn crop has some moisture benefit; however, more is needed to maintain yield prospects.

DRY WEEKEND IN ARGENTINA

Argentina crop areas continue with a dry forecast through the weekend into early next week. Rain chances improve during the five-to-seven-day period.

BENEFICIAL AUSTRALIA MOISTURE

Australia wheat areas have adequate moisture for wheat seeding and early crop development. Continued rains are forecast through the growing season.
