OMAHA (DTN) -- Brief Midwest fieldwork delays in the next five days and improved rain prospects for Europe and the Black Sea region are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast features moderate-to-locally heavy rain in the eastern Midwest during the next five days. Some planting interruption is likely. Western Midwest areas have lighter rain with more opportunity for progress. The entire region has a drier pattern with seasonal to above normal temperatures in the six-to-10-day period, which will improve prospects.

WARM AND DRY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains have a warm and dry trend in the next week to 10 days. The milder trend will be favorable for winter wheat, where damage from the mid-April freeze is still being evaluated. Moderate rainfall in the past week favors soil moisture ahead of the drier trend.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

In the Northern Plains, near to above normal temperatures and only scattered rain showers through the next seven days should allow fieldwork to progress. Additional progress of the much-delayed corn harvest will also be noted.

MODERATE RAIN FOR DELTA

The Delta has moderate-to-locally heavy rain totals through the next seven days. Some fieldwork and planting delays will occur; however, long-lasting delays are not indicated. This is a more favorable forecast for planting progress.

PERSISTENT BRAZIL DRYNESS

Brazil crop areas continues with a dry forecast through the next seven days. Dryness is stressful to the safrinha corn crop. Dry conditions have already caused extensive soybean crop reduction relative to earlier estimates.

HEAVY RAIN FOR ARGENTINA

Argentina crop areas have heavy rain forming through the end of the week into next week. Rain will delay harvest. Flooding is also possible, which poses damage to crops in addition to harvest delays.

IMPROVED EUROPE RAIN PATTERN

Central and northern Europe crop areas have a higher chance for rain during the next seven days. This would be important moisture for wheat areas and will be closely tracked.

VARIABLE RUSSIA RAIN

In the Black Sea region, moderate rain continues in the forecast for the Central Russia crop district over the next week. Other areas of Ukraine and Russia will have light-to-locally moderate amounts. Winter grains are in need of moisture as they move through their development phases earlier than average.
