OMAHA (DTN) -- Snow and rain bringing wet soils to the Midwest through the weekend and favorable rain chances in Russia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

MIDWEST RAIN AND SNOW

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for wet Midwest soils from rain and late-season snow this week to keep fieldwork sidelined through the weekend into next week. Some progress may be possible in portions of the western Midwest where precipitation was lighter. Additional rain is forecast for southern Midwest areas during the next week to 10 days.

RAIN CHANCES FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains rain chances continue to increase during the next seven days. Light-to-moderate rain offers some benefit for winter wheat. Temperatures will moderate after dropping to damaging levels for jointing wheat early this week.

MILDER FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, a drier and warmer trend is still forecast in the next 10 days, offering improved prospects for spring fieldwork. Further progress in the very late corn harvest in North Dakota is also likely. The more moderate trend will favor livestock as well.

RAIN TO RETURN TO DELTA

Delta planting has likely made progress due to drier conditions in the past week. Moderate-to-heavy rain returns to region through the weekend into next week, which will slow down additional progress.

MIXED BRAZIL RAIN FORECAST

Brazil has a mixed rain forecast. Southern Brazil crop areas have continued dryness, which brings ideas of further reduction in soybean and corn crop sizes. Central areas have scattered showers with possible stress to safrinha (second-crop) corn as the dry season sets in.

LIMITED ARGENTINA RAIN

Argentina crop areas will be drier over the next several days. Only isolated showers are expected in the middle of next week. Crop size estimates are being shaved due to the drier pattern in the last half of the crop season.

CONTINUED RUSSIA RAIN FORECAST

In the Black Sea region, rainfall in Russia and Ukraine is still a forecast highlight. This would be beneficial for winter wheat following a very dry period over the past six weeks.

PROMISING AUSTRALIA RAIN CHANCE

Light-to-moderate rain continues in the forecast for Australia wheat areas over the next week. The rain would add to soil moisture improvement for wheat areas as sowing begins.
