Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Cool to cold conditions in the Midwest slowing spring fieldwork and promising rain chances in Russia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

CHILLY WEEK IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for well below normal Midwest temperatures during this week to curtail any planting activities. The storm track is generally to the south this week, but periods of showers may still move through the region, including bouts of snow. Moderate rain will be possible over the southern Midwest Friday to Saturday. The pattern turns warmer during the final 10 days of April, offering better fieldwork opportunities.

MOSTLY DRY WEEK IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, winter wheat areas will be mostly dry during the balance of the week. Western sectors especially need more moisture.

Temperatures well below normal this week could damage jointing wheat. Low temperatures in the upper 10s to upper 20s Fahrenheit are forecast for portions of Nebraska and Kansas through Friday before rising.

STILL VERY COLD IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains temperatures have a very cold pattern in place this week, stressing livestock and putting a hold on fieldwork. Low temperatures during the middle of this week may dip into the single digits above zero.

LIGHT DELTA PRECIPITATION

The Delta will see light precipitation during the balance of this week, which may offer some planting progress opportunity. Light rain returns to the region during the coming weekend. Next week offers periods of rain that will slow down progress.

MIXED BRAZIL RAINFALL

In Brazil's crop areas, rainfall continues in the forecast for central and northern areas. Southern areas will be dry, with continued reduction in crop production likely.

SCATTERED ARGENTINA SHOWERS

Central Argentina has light showers forecast during the coming week. The showers will bring only modest improvement to soil moisture following a very dry spell in the past several weeks.

BENEFICIAL RUSSIA RAIN PROSPECT

In the Black Sea region, light-to-moderate rain is forecast during the coming week, notably in Russia. The rain would benefit winter wheat soil moisture.

FAVORABLE EUROPE TREND

Across Europe, conditions appear rather favorable for developing winter wheat and rapeseed going forward after concerns for frost damage last week. Periods of showers moving through this week will benefit developing winter crops and spring grains.

LIGHT AUSTRALIA RAIN

Australia wheat areas have light rain forecast during the next week. This should bring no more than brief delays in wheat planting. Soil moisture is improved for wheat due to above average rain in the past 60 days.
