Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN)— A cold pattern forming for the central U.S. and ongoing dry conditions in southern Brazil and Argentina are key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

WET AND COLD MIDWEST OUTLOOK

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for widespread moderate to heavy rain through the coming weekend into early next week over most of the Midwest. In addition, temperatures turn well below normal for at least the following several days. This would put a stop to any planting activities.

SOUTHERN PLAINS FREEZE THREAT

In the Southern Plains, much colder conditions during the coming weekend into next week bear watching for possible damage to winter wheat. Low temperatures in the upper teens and lower 20s Fahrenheit are forecast for portions of Nebraska and Kansas next week. There is also very little precipitation indicated for dry areas of the southwestern Plains.

HARSH COLD FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains temperatures will fall back below normal for the next week or two, stressing livestock and putting a hold of fieldwork. Low temperatures this weekend through the middle of next week may dip into the single digits above zero.

WET WEEKEND IN DELTA

The Delta will see moderate to heavy precipitation returning through the weekend along with temperatures trending well below normal. The combination will keep fieldwork delayed. Corn planting is well behind average in the region.

MORE SOUTHERN BRAZIL DRYNESS

In Brazil's crop areas, rainfall continues in the forecast for central and northern areas. Southern areas will be drier with additional crop stress through the weekend. Crop estimates continue being pared back in Brazil.

DRIER TREND CONTINUES IN ARGENTINA

Central Argentina's cool and dry pattern continues through the weekend. The dry late-season trend has caused some reduction in crop prospects. In addition, reduced flow on the Parana River has led to reduced loads on export vessels.

LIMITED BLACK SEA PRECIPITATION

In the Black Sea region, only light rain is again forecast through the next five days. Dryness is a notable feature in South Russia. Ukraine will turn drier as well with this light precipitation.
