Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Lower temperatures in store for the central U.S. and dryness in South Russia are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

COOL MIDWEST OUTLOOK

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for showers across the Midwest during the coming week to offer variable soil moisture conditions for crop progress. A lower temperature trend will slow the rate of progress. Recent warm and dry conditions in the eastern Midwest have been favorable for fieldwork and some planting progress.

CONTINUED SOUTHWESTERN PLAINS DRYNESS

In the Southern Plains, western areas continue with a dry trend during the next week to 10 days. This is unfavorable for wheat in its post-dormancy development. Cool to cold conditions in store will also bear watching for possible crop stress.

COLDER IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains temperatures will fall to below normal later this week and for several days afterward, stressing livestock and putting a hold on any fieldwork. River basin flooding is also in store due to melting snowpack.

SHOWERS FOR DELTA

Delta conditions were drier during the past five days, allowing for some field drying and fieldwork. Daily showers return during this week, leading to some disruption in progress.

CENTRAL BRAZIL SHOWERS

In Brazil’s crop areas, rainfall will work from south to north through Tuesday, stalling out in the central and northern areas. Southern areas will be drier with additional crop stress.

COOL AND DRY IN CENTRAL ARGENTINA

Central Argentina has a dry and cool pattern in store this week. Mature areas will likely benefit while the second-crop soybeans still filling may incur stress.

SOUTH RUSSIA DRYNESS

In the Black Sea region, the South Russia crop district soil moisture supply is short to very short. Very little rain is forecast through the next five days. The region will be monitored closely for stress to wheat after a dry month of March.
