OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain and snow indicated over the central United States, and a drier trend in central Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MIDWEST RAIN AND SNOW

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate-to-heavy precipitation in the northern and western Midwest during the next five days. Moisture includes the potential for snow. Soils will remain saturated, with the potential for at least minor flooding. A delayed start to spring fieldwork is looming over the region. Eastern Midwest soils are already saturated due to recent precipitation.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, eastern sectors have seen moderate rainfall during the first part of the week. Drier sections in the southwest have had lighter amounts. Winter wheat coming out of dormancy needs additional precipitation in this area. Temperatures will briefly fall well below normal Thursday-through-Saturday. Temperatures should not get cold enough to cause damage except for any areas in the northwest that have broken dormancy.

WINTRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains areas have a dose of winter weather ahead for mid to late week with low temperatures along with rain and snow. This combination is unfavorable for late corn harvest and will be stressful for livestock.

CONTINUED DELTA STORMS

The Delta had moderate-to-heavy rain and severe storms during the past weekend and early in this week. Saturated soils and delayed fieldwork continue. Another rain system is forecast to move through the region at the end of the week.

SCATTERED BRAZIL RAI

Scattered rain is indicated in the forecast through the next week over the primary crop areas of Brazil. Dryness in the last two months has already shaved the total soybean crop size. Safrinha corn in central areas may incur stress due to a lack of moisture.

LIGHT ARGENTINA RAIN

In Argentina, light, scattered showers are indicated through Wednesday. The remainder of the week will be cool and dry. Filling crops need additional precipitation, while the drier trend is favorable for harvest progress in ripe crop areas.

COLDER IN EUROPE

Western and southern Europe wheat areas continue with a colder forecast through late week. Low temperatures are forecast in the range of minus to minus 7 Celsius (23 to 19 degrees Fahrenheit). This colder trend may cause some shock to winter wheat, which is several weeks ahead of normal in its post-dormancy development.

CHILLY MIDWEEK IN BLACK SEA

In the Black Sea region, winter wheat in Russia and Ukraine will have low temperatures in the range of minus 5 to minus 7 C (23 to 19 degrees F) through Thursday. No significant damage to wheat is expected, even with the crop about a month earlier than average in post-dormancy development.

SOUTHEAST AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Southeast Australia crop areas have moderate rain forecast through the next week. This offers much-needed moisture ahead of winter wheat planting which begins in mid-April.
