Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Ongoing dryness in much of South America, and slow drying conditions in the Midwest, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

SLOW MIDWEST DRYING

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for light and scattered precipitation across the Midwest through the end of the week. Temperatures averaging above normal for the next 10 days will help with snowmelt and drainage in many areas, though a strong system will bring more widespread moderate precipitation early next week. Slow drying will continue.

MIDWEEK SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, heavy rainfall is in store for southern sectors Wednesday. The remainder of the region will be dry, with strong winds leading to drying of soil moisture. A new storm system early next week could produce more moderate widespread precipitation.

MILD FOR NORTHERN SNOW MELT

In the Northern Plains, above normal temperatures through the weekend will allow steady snowmelt and excess soil moisture drainage. Some precipitation is expected through Thursday, but looks to be minimal for most areas. A return to harvest may be possible for some areas, though very wet conditions will continue for those areas that still need to be harvested. A stronger system early next week could produce some moderate precipitation in a few spots.

DELTA TO STAY WET

The Delta continues to have rain in the forecast. Moderate rain over southern areas will exit early Thursday, keeping soils wet and limiting fieldwork. Another strong storm could bring additional moderate-to-heavy rain to the area early next week.

MINIMAL BRAZIL RAIN

Southern Brazil remains in a pattern with very little rain through the next week. Soybean crop size may be reduced in southern Brazil because of the dry trend. Further to the north, a zone of scattered showers and thunderstorms will push just off to the north of the major growing areas through this weekend, allowing continued soybean harvest progress and second-crop corn (safrinha) development.

MORE ARGENTINA DRYNESS

Argentina continues with dry conditions and stress to filling corn and soybeans this week. Isolated showers start to become possible on Friday and continue through the weekend, but look to be very hit-or-miss, though some moderate amounts will be possible.

WARM TREND IN BLACK SEA REGION

Russia and Ukraine have a very warm and dry pattern in store through the next week. Temperatures are expected to average 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit above normal. Only scattered light precipitation is indicated. Soils may dry quickly with this combination.
