Commodities Market Impact Weather
Storms Shut Down Late-Harvest Efforts
OMAHA (DTN) -- Storms affecting harvest and fieldwork in the Northern Plains and Midwest, and favorable weather for South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.
STORMS FOR MIDWEST
The DTN ag weather forecast for the Midwest calls for snow, ice and rain west with rain or showers east Tuesday into Wednesday. The storm brought moderate to heavy snow in Nebraska, northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota and Minnesota. There is an impact to travel, transport and harvesting. The second storm, Friday into Saturday, may bring more rain than snow to the Midwest, but additional significant impacts to travel, transport and harvesting are likely.
MORE SNOW FOR NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, the first of two significant snowstorms passed mostly south of this area Tuesday. The second storm is likely to bring heavy snow, strong winds and possibly blizzard conditions to the region Friday into Saturday. This may mean an end to the harvest season in the region for this year. It likely will bring travel and transport to a standstill. It is a significant risk to livestock.

SNOW, WIND FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
The Southern Plains received 5-10 inches of snow Tuesday and Tuesday night in northeast Colorado, northwest Kansas and much of southern Nebraska. High winds in the southwest Plains. There is increased stress to livestock. Precipitation during the five-day period improves soil moisture for wheat. There will be a variable temperature pattern but nothing that looks low enough to harm wheat at this stage. Wind may also be a concern with the next storm moving by Friday to Saturday, especially through western growing areas.
STORMY, COLD FOR WESTERN U.S.
For the western U.S., moderate to heavy snow, ice and rain is expected to affect much of the region from California through the central and southern Rockies mountain region during the next five days. This is likely to be heavy snow in the mountains and some lower elevation snow as well. It will also mean flooding, possibly severe flooding, especially in areas that do not normally see much in the way of heavy rain. Travel will be greatly affected. The activity weather pattern may continue over California and Nevada during the six-to-10-day period.
RAIN FOR BRAZIL
In Brazil, beneficial rainfall for developing soybeans is expected to move northward through the central and northern crop belt Wednesday and linger in the north Thursday. This may allow some showers and lower temperatures in soybean areas of west Bahia and nearby areas during this period.
RAINS HELP ARGENTINA
For Argentina, the region will be somewhat drier and with a variable temperature pattern during the next seven days. There is favorable conditions for planting and early development of corn and soybeans. Some local dryness continues, but many areas have favorable moisture at this time.
