Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- An intense cold wave for the entire central U.S., and continued favorable rain prospects for Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

HARSH MIDWEST COLD

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a secondary surge of cold Arctic Air to cover the Midwest during the next five to 10 days. The cold will slow down harvest and transport activity. Precipitation will be confined to southeast areas and the Delta.

COLD AND DRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, only scattered light precipitation during the next seven days will allow continued harvest progress. Very cold weather will keep the harvest pace slow.

SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, southeastern sectors have beneficial rainfall for wheat development. Colder and drier conditions elsewhere lead to slower development of wheat.

DRY AND COLD IN PRAIRIES

The Canadian Prairies continue with a dry and cold pattern, favoring harvest activity.

ONGOING BRAZIL RAIN FORECAST

Across Brazil, all but northeastern crop areas continue with moderate to heavy rain in the forecast through the next seven days. This moisture will be favorable for developing row crops.

MIXED ARGENTINA RAIN

In Argentina, dry and warm conditions will favor planting and early development of corn during the next week. Dryness is of some concern in western growing areas. There appears to be some chance for significant rainfall with good coverage in the area during five-to-seven-day time frame.

MORE AUSTRALIA WHEAT REDUCTION

Private crop estimates are reportedly lowering the Australia wheat crop even more due to drought.

FAVORABLE SOUTH AFRICA PATTERN

In South Africa, increasing showers and a variable temperature pattern will improve conditions for corn planting and early development.
