OMAHA (DTN) -- Midwest rain and snow disrupting harvest, and a mixed pattern for the Northern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

MIDWEST RAIN AND SNOW

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for rain and snow in the central and southern tier of the Midwest. This moisture will be unfavorable for harvest, and will bring safety and transport issues. Below to much below normal temperatures will add to the harvest delays.

MIXED NORTHERN PLAINS OUTLOOK

The Northern Plains will be cold and dry through the end of the week. This will allow improved harvest conditions. Rain and snow are indicated in the 10-day forecast, bringing in a new round of delays.

SOUTHERN PLAINS WINTER MIX

Southern Plains crop areas have winter-like cold and mixed precipitation in store through the day Wednesday into Thursday. Safety and transport issues are indicated. Winter wheat damage will be minimal. Light precipitation totals and strong winds mean that no appreciable easing of dryness in western areas will occur.

COLD TO BENEFIT PRAIRIES HARVEST

In the Canadian Prairies, a cold and dry pattern this week is more favorable for harvest. Manitoba receives the biggest benefit after very heavy rain and snow in the past two weeks.

SOUTHERN BRAZIL FLOOD THREAT

Across Brazil, rainfall will be a wide variation. Southern crop areas have heavy rain and the potential for flooding. Northern crop areas have light to moderate amounts of precipitation forecast, with light totals in central and south-central areas.

VARIABLE ARGENTINA MOISTURE

In Argentina, periodic showers will improve crop moisture, although western areas are still relatively dry.

MINIMAL BLACK SEA MOISTURE

In the Black Sea region, Russia and Ukraine have no precipitation forecast through the next five days. This dry spell will add to soil moisture deficits and drought concern in northern and western Ukraine.

LATE-ARRIVING AUSTRALIA RAIN

Southeastern Australia crop areas have moderate to locally heavy rain forecast through the coming weekend. The rain will improve conditions for filling winter wheat. Wheat production will be lower this season due to extensive drought.
