Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Wet and cold conditions in the central U.S., and scattered rain in the primary Brazil crop areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

MIDWEST RAIN AND COLD

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate-to-locally heavy rain in the Midwest at the end of the week to be unfavorable for maturing crops and leading to harvest disruption. A season-ending freeze in western, northern and central areas is also likely. Eastern Midwest areas will have rain showers, offering some soil moisture benefit while disrupting harvest.

NORTHERN PLAINS SNOWSTORM

Northern Plains' crop areas will have heavy snow, strong winds and blizzard conditions through the end of the week and the beginning of the weekend. Snowfall will approach 3 feet in central and eastern North Dakota. This storm will disrupt travel, transport and harvest along with causing crop damage. Following the storm, much lower temperatures will mean a growing season-ending hard freeze.

SOUTHERN PLAINS CHILLS

Much colder conditions will cover the Southern Plains through the weekend. Germination and early development of recently planted winter wheat will slow with the colder conditions. Rain in eastern areas and mixed precipitation in the northwest will also bring some delays in wheat planting and in row crop harvest.

COLD PRAIRIES PATTERN

The southeastern Canadian Prairies will have an extended period of harvest and transport delays following heavy snow at the end of the week. The entire Prairies region will have hard freeze conditions through the weekend, causing damage to immature crops, while improving field conditions for operating machinery.

SCATTERED BRAZIL RAIN

Across Brazil, rainfall remains variable. Soybean planting progress is behind average and will continue that lag through the weekend.

POSSIBLE ARGENTINA SHOWERS

Crop areas in Argentina have light-to-moderate rain indicated in the five-day forecast. This moisture will be more favorable for corn planting.
