Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Midwest rain, and improved prospects for Brazil soybean planting, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

WET MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate-to-heavy rain over most of the Midwest during the next week. Rain will delay crop maturity and disrupt harvest. In addition, a new round of flooding is possible in western sectors. Soil moisture is saturated in northern and western areas.

COLD AND WET IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, moderate-to-heavy rain, along with snow, will delay the final stage of spring wheat harvest and will hinder row crop maturity during the next week. Colder conditions are in store during this coming weekend in Montana, with a freeze possible. There is also a freeze chance in central North Dakota crop areas.

LIGHT SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, central and western areas will have light rain in the next week. This light precipitation, along with above-normal temperatures, will limit wheat planting.

WESTERN PRAIRIES FREEZE

In the Canadian Prairies, a season-ending freeze is indicated for the western half of the region by this coming weekend. Late-filling crops, especially canola, would be at risk of damage. Snow is also expected in the western areas. Eastern areas have moderate-to-heavy rain in store, which will disrupt harvest.

IMPROVED BRAZIL RAIN CHANCE

Brazil's central crop areas were hot and dry Monday, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Cooler conditions with showers are forecast during the next week. This will offer an improved scenario for soybean planting.

SHOWERS FOR WESTERN EUROPE

In Europe, consistent rain during the next week will be favorable for soil moisture for winter crops.

WESTERN UKRAINE RAIN FORECAST

In the Black Sea region, western and northern Ukraine have a promising round of showers in the forecast through the next week. This will be beneficial following a recent dry spell.

LIMITED EASTERN AUSTRALIA RAIN

Across Australia, northern New South Wales and southern Queensland remain drier than normal during the next 10 days. Other wheat areas have better chances for precipitation.
