Safety Tip of the Month - February 2021

(Progressive Farmer image by Steve Thompson)

The use of a chisel and hammer as tools in the shop is very common. Safety glasses are suggested when using a chisel, mainly because as the chisel is hit, the head becomes "mushroomed," and small pieces can fly off the head of a chisel at amazing speeds -- fast enough to penetrate skin and eyes. It is a good idea to occasionally keep the head of the chisel ground off to help eliminate an accident caused by flying steel.
