OMAHA (DTN) -- A continued light-precipitation trend for the Midwest through next week, and unfavorable rain in the Southern Plains wheat harvest areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

DRIER AND WARMER FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast again calls for light precipitation across the Midwest over the next week. This will offer some improvement in field conditions for late planting and crop development. The states of Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan are especially in need of this more-favorable pattern.

RAIN TO DISRUPT SOUTHERN PLAINS HARVEST

A round of moderate to heavy rain is indicated for portions of the Southern Plains during the coming weekend. The area with this activity includes Oklahoma, where wheat harvest is beginning. The rain will be unfavorable for wheat, with harvest disruption likely along with quality loss. Recently completed harvest in Texas was reportedly disappointing.

HOT AND DRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, very warm to hot conditions are indicated through the coming weekend. Dryness is becoming more of a concern across the region. The NOAA drought forecast for June has drought either developing or persisting in the region.

RAIN AHEAD FOR PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, scattered showers favoring east, central and southwest areas during the next week will favor development of recently planted crops while causing only minor planting delays. Less shower activity and warmer weather helps improve conditions for fieldwork over central and north Alberta and northwest Saskatchewan.

WEEKEND EUROPE SHOWERS

In Western Europe, a variable temperature pattern with episodes of scattered rainfall will favor developing winter wheat and rapeseed and early growth of corn and sunflower for both France and Germany.

FAVORABLE RUSSIA PATTERN

A variable temperature pattern with episodes of scattered showers will favor winter and spring grains and oilseeds in Russia and Ukraine. A dry area of north-central Ukraine is included in the chances for rainfall.

SCATTERED NORTHEAST CHINA RAIN

Crop areas of northeast China will see cooler weather and scattered showers at the end of this week. This favors development of recently planted crops while causing only minor planting delays. The region should see more variable temperatures and periodic showers next week.

RAIN CHANCES FOR NORTH CHINA PLAIN

Increasing rainfall is expected to develop through south and central areas of the North China Plain during the next week. This will improve soil moisture for spring-planted crops.

WIDESPREAD INDIA SHOWERS

The past week has been active for showers across much of the India subcontinent. Increasing cloud cover and scattered rains over the southeast and central areas of the Arabian Sea at the end of this week have led to significant rain occurring as far north as Gujarat in western India. The activity over India and in the Bay of Bengal is more scattered. However, despite the precipitation in Gujarat, the India Meteorological Department still shows the leading edge of the monsoon in far south India, and between Myanmar and over eastern Bangladesh and western Assam, India in the northeast.
