OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued dryness in northeastern Brazil, and wet conditions in central Argentina, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mild conditions in the Midwest during the end of the calendar year 2016. The pattern still presents a much colder trend in the 10-day time frame. This colder pattern may also be accompanied by a new winter storm system during the first full weekend of January.

DRY AND COLD FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains' wheat areas continue with a dry pattern. Wheat has already been affected by dryness and earlier cold conditions in western areas. A new cold wave spreading across the continental U.S. next week may bring additional stress to the wheat crop.

MIXED NORTHERN PLAINS TREND

In the Northern Plains, mild weather through the New Year weekend will allow for recovery and repair following damage caused by a winter storm during the Christmas holiday weekend. The 10-day time frame has a much colder pattern, along with the potential for a new winter storm system moving across the region.

DRY AGAIN IN NORTHEAST BRAZIL

Across Brazil, the northeastern crop areas remain mostly dry. This sector comprises around 10% of total Brazil soybean acreage. Other crop areas have a mostly favorable soil moisture supply. Additional showers are in the forecast for all but northeastern areas through the coming weekend.

WET IN CENTRAL ARGENTINA

In central Argentina, wet conditions now cover portions of the major crop areas. Conditions mostly favor crop development; however, wet ground may cause some loss of acreage. Additional significant rain is expected early next week. Southeastern crop areas remain dry and in need of rain to avoid production loss.
