Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Prospects for moderate to heavy rain later this week in the Midwest, and a mild trend for Northern Plains snow melt, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MIDWEST RAIN AHEAD

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a major rain event for the western, central and eastern Midwest during the Thursday-through-Saturday time frame. This will lead to renewed flooding in southern, central and eastern areas of the region. Northern and northwestern areas will have continued snow-melt flooding; however, additional heavy rain is not expected.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS SNOW MELT

In the Northern Plains, a mild and dry trend will allow for orderly snow melt during this week. This will help to mitigate flood problems.

FAVORABLE SOIL MOISTURE IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, adequate to surplus soil moisture is favorable for winter wheat as it breaks dormancy.

BENEFICIAL BRAZIL PATTERN

Favorable weather for developing second-crop corn continues in central Brazil. Drier weather and warm-to-hot temperatures in southern Brazil favor the soybean harvest.

MAINLY DRY WEEK IN ARGENTINA

In central Argentina, drier weather until later this week will favor maturing corn and soybeans and the early harvest.
