Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN)— Rainfall focusing on southern Brazil, and possible short-term flooding in Argentina, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

EASTERN MIDWEST SHOWERS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to locally heavy rain in the eastern Midwest through the end of the week, mainly on Friday and Saturday. The rain will cause further delays in the final row crop harvest effort. Elsewhere in the Midwest, conditions will be drier, allowing for improved final harvest and transportation.

VERY WINDY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Dry and very windy conditions are in store Thursday through early Friday in the Southern Plains. Strong winds will cause transportation disruption. The windy pattern will also dry out topsoils and bring potential wind erosion. Increased fire danger is noted as well with this strong wind pattern.

SOUTHEAST U.S. RAIN

Showers and thunderstorms will return to the Delta and Southeast over the next couple days. The rain will cause some disruption to travel and transport. The pattern is warm enough that chances of freezing precipitation are quite low.

SOUTHERN BRAZIL RAIN FOCUS

In Brazil's major crop areas, the southern sector will see increasing thunderstorm activity during the next week. The most activity will be in Rio Grande do Sul, but possibly in southern Parana as well. Areas from northern Parana to Mato Grosso have at least some chance for afternoon thundershowers during the next few days, but will continue above normal temperatures.

CENTRAL ARGENTINA RAIN

Moderate to heavy rain is again in the forecast for central Argentina during the next seven days. Rain may be heavy enough to cause flooding in Santa Fe and Entre Rios, and could bring on some washing-out of recently planted corn and soybean acreage.

MIXED BLACK SEA SITUATION

In the Black Sea region, recent snowfall offers cover for winter wheat. Benefit may be variable, though, due to inconsistent germination and sprouting at planting time this season; a result of dryness in part of the region. More than half the Russia and Ukraine crop areas are short on soil moisture at this time.

DRY SOUTH AFRICA FORECAST

South Africa crop areas have a very warm to hot and dry forecast for the rest of this week following some beneficial rains during the past weekend.
