Commodities Market Impact Weather

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Lower temperatures across the United States and good chances and coverage of rain in South America are the weather factors holding the market's attention Monday.

COLDER AND DRIER IN MIDWEST

Scattered showers fell across the eastern Midwest on Saturday and a cold front swept through much of the region on Sunday, bringing colder conditions. Some isolated showers will be possible across southern areas during the next two days, but the cold will slow soil drainage with some frosts and freezes through the week. That will slow growth on winter wheat. Temperatures will rise late this week and weekend.

SCATTERED SHOWERS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

A front moved into the Plains with lower temperatures this weekend. This also sparked a mix of rain and snow over northwestern areas as well. That should continue as the front slides south through Wednesday. The cold will bring some frosts and freezes through the week, slowing growth for winter wheat. Any precipitation would be beneficial however, as drought has been building, especially across the western areas.

COLD IN THE NORTHERN PLAINS

Some isolated light showers moved through the Northern Plains with a cold front this weekend, but most areas were dry. Low temperatures will be in place for the next few days but it should remain dry. Warmer weather will arrive late this week and weekend and there is a chance for a few showers going into next week.

SCATTERED SHOWERS FOR DELTA

Mostly dry weather was noted in the Delta this weekend. A front slipping through the region will have some occasional showers this week, but moderate amounts should stick to southern areas. Overall, harvest should not be affected very much.

DRIER IN THE SOUTHEAST

Dry weather was noted in the Southeast during the weekend and will continue for the next few days before a front moves through with scattered showers on Thursday. Lower temperatures will follow the front going into next week.

WAVES OF LIGHT RAIN FOR PACIFIC NORTHWEST

A front brought some showers to the Pacific Northwest this weekend, but drought remains a large concern for the region's winter wheat. A trough off the coast will bring in a few waves of light showers which may be helpful for a few areas, but more moisture is needed throughout the rest of the fall and winter.

ONLY ISOLATED SHOWERS FOR BLACK SEA

Dry weather continued for Ukraine and western Russia during the weekend with increasing temperatures. A couple of weak systems will bring some showers mostly to Ukraine this week, while Russia stays fairly dry. There continues to be dryness concerns for winter wheat establishment in these drier areas.

SHOWERS CONTINUING ACROSS BRAZIL

Scattered showers continued to affect most of Brazil this weekend. Scattered showers will continue daily across central areas for the next week, while a couple of rounds of showers are expected across southern areas as well. Overall, conditions are favorable for soybean and full-season corn planting and early growth. Some dry periods will favor winter wheat harvest over the south as well.

DAILY RAIN CHANCES FOR ARGENTINA

Isolated showers moved through Argentina this weekend and will be more widespread this week as a couple of rounds of showers are expected with some slow-moving systems. That will favor corn and soybean planting as well as immature winter wheat.
