Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Deepening dryness in the western Midwest and continued favorable precipitation indications for Australia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

MORE WESTERN MIDWEST DROUGHT

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for drought-affected areas of the western Midwest to have limited rain over the next week. Drought is now at extreme levels in west-central Iowa according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Moderate to locally heavy rain in the next five to seven days is indicated to focus on the southern and eastern Midwest, maintaining favorable crop conditions in those sectors.

HOT AND DRY IN SOUTHWEST PLAINS

Southern Plains areas have a widely variable rainfall pattern over the next seven days. Central and eastern areas will see periods of rain with seasonal temperatures. Western and southwestern areas, however, will be dry and hot with crop and pasture deterioration.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

Northern Plains crop areas have a continued favorable crop weather pattern through the weekend. Periods of showers will maintain generally adequate row crop moisture. Rains will also bring some brief delays in spring wheat harvest.

SCATTERED DELTA AND SOUTHEAST RAIN

Delta and Southeast crop areas have a scattered rainfall pattern through the end of the week. Southeast coastal areas have widespread light to moderate showers indicated. Delta and interior Southeast areas will be mainly dry. Temperatures show a warming trend over the next week.

COOLER WITH SHOWERS IN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, temperatures have a trend to below-normal values indicated in the seven-day forecast. Rainfall shows a light to moderate range. Northern areas have heavy rain indicated in the seven to ten-day time frame.

VARIABLE BLACK SEA RAIN

In the Black Sea region, variable rainfall, mostly light to locally moderate, is indicated from Ukraine through Russia during the next week. Temperatures show a near-to-below-normal trend with very little stress to summer crops.

LIGHT RAIN FOR EUROPE

Across Europe, only light rain is indicated in the seven-day forecast. Stressed crops in western areas will see very little relief. Dry southeastern areas have higher chances at moderate rainfall.

DRY LATE WEEK IN BRAZIL

Across Brazil, dry conditions continue to favor the later stages of safrinha corn harvest. Meanwhile, conditions remain favorable for developing wheat in the south.

LIMITED CENTRAL ARGENTINA RAINFALL

Argentina crop areas have very little rain indicated in the forecast for central crop areas. Eastern crop areas have light to locally moderate showers indicated. Wheat acreage has been reduced due to dryness.

CONTINUED AUSTRALIA RAIN FORECAST

Beneficial rain continues in the forecast for both western and eastern wheat areas of Australia. Heaviest rain totals are indicated in New South Wales. This would be useful moisture for wheat.
