Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Favorable conditions for Midwest fieldwork and dryness concern in the Black Sea region and Europe are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MIDWEST RAIN AND SNOW

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for favorable fieldwork and planting conditions for early this week across the Midwest. Limited showers over the next several days may allow fieldwork to resume. Two systems moving through late this week and weekend will slow progress.

DRIER IN SOUTHWESTERN PLAINS

Wheat areas in the southwestern Plains remain dry. Some showers this week may help but will not ease the dryness concerns. Temperatures well-below normal last week were likely damaging to developing winter wheat, which looks to have decent conditions for recovery.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

In the Northern Plains, near normal temperatures and the lack of organized showers this week should allow fieldwork to progress. Scattered showers move through the region during late week.

VARIABLE DELTA CONDITIONS

In the Delta, moderate precipitation this past weekend will curtail fieldwork for most areas. The next two days feature drier conditions, offering some chance for progress. Storm systems late this week and over the weekend will put another hold on work. Any areas that have been able to plant thus far should find conditions favorable for emergence.

STATIC BRAZIL PATTERN

Southern Brazil crop areas have continued dryness, which brings ideas of further reduction in soybean and corn crop sizes. Central areas have scattered showers with likely stress to safrinha (second-crop) corn as the dry season sets in.

MIXED ARGENTINA FORECAST

Argentina crop areas will be drier over the next several days. Crop size estimates are being shaved due to the drier pattern in the last half of the crop season. Rain returns to the forecast by late week.

DRYNESS IN EUROPE

Across Europe, drier conditions over the central and northern growing areas could start to stress developing wheat and rapeseed as dryness continues this week. Southern areas are seeing plentiful showers this week that will help developing to reproductive wheat and rapeseed.

LIGHT RUSSIA RAIN

In the Black Sea region, only brief rain showers are forecast for Ukraine and South Russia during the coming week. Winter grains need moisture as they move through their development phases earlier than average.

LIGHT AUSTRALIA SHOWERS

Light-to-moderate rain is in store for Australia wheat areas during the next week. Soil moisture is mostly favorable for wheat areas as sowing begins.
