Commodities Market Impact Weather

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Periods of showers moving through the country this weekend into next week, but missing quite a few spots, and a potential for frost in Brazil are the short-term weather factors driving the markets Friday.

MILD MIDWEST WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS

Isolated to scattered showers will move through the Midwest this weekend into early next week with a system. Temperatures will increase ahead of the system but become milder after the front passes through. The showers may help those areas in the region that have been missing the showers recently while others will miss out. The region remains a mixed bag of conditions for filling corn and soybeans.

CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS HOPING FOR MORE RAIN

A weekend system will bring scattered showers to northern areas, but showers are not likely to be widespread. The front to the system will be more likely to produce more widespread showers next week as the front stalls over Texas, offering better precipitation chances and amounts in areas that received some drought relief recently.

LIMITED RAIN IN NORTHERN PLAINS, THEN DRY

Drier conditions in the Northern Plains continue to raise concerns for declining soil moisture for corn and soybeans, but some showers developing through this weekend could ease pressure in spots. Dry weather is expected for next week with increasing temperatures, an unfavorable combination.

PERIODS OF SHOWERS FOR SOME OF THE DELTA

Some isolated showers will continue in the Delta through the weekend across the south, adding to the week's beneficial heavy rain that has eased drought concerns. Northern areas have not been as lucky this week, but conditions have eased there recently as well. Another front will move through early next week with scattered showers and stall near the Gulf Coast with showers continuing through the remainder of the week. These may drift northward later next week as well. Conditions are mixed for filling cotton and soybeans.

GOOD HARVEST CONDITIONS FOR CANADIAN PRAIRIES

Periods of showers will move through the Canadian Prairies this weekend, but only offer limited benefits to maturing wheat. Warmer temperatures and dryness next week should aid harvest.

FROST POSSIBLE FOR SOUTHERN BRAZIL WHEAT

A front will move through southern Brazil this weekend. While it may bring some isolated showers through, it will also bring much cooler temperatures and a potential frost risk early next week. Overall, conditions for reproductive to filling wheat remain good in the country.

ARGENTINA WHEAT STILL COLD

A front moving through Argentina this weekend will bring some needed showers to wheat areas but will be followed by colder temperatures and a risk for frost for a couple of days. Another front next week will do something similar. Cooler temperatures and limited rainfall have been detrimental for wheat so far this season.

BLACK SEA STAYING HOT

Warmer temperatures with limited showers through early next week will aid in remaining wheat harvest while putting some pressure on corn and sunflower filling. Conditions have been much better in Ukraine than in western Russia. A front moving through in the middle of next week may bring a round of more widespread showers but also milder temperatures, which will ease some stress for Russia.
