Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Widely varied Midwest rain prospects and a continued forecast for hot and dry conditions in the Black Sea region are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

WESTERN MIDWEST RAIN FOCUS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for Midwest rain to focus on the western half of the region through the next 10 days. Western and southern areas had moderate to heavy rain over the last week, benefiting some of the drier soils but also causing some flooding. The eastern sector is dry; mainly northern Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Only periods of isolated showers are likely after Thursday. Areas that are missed could see further stress developing.

LIMITED SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, continued widely scattered showers and mainly high temperatures will favor wheat harvest during the next several days. The heat will be stressful to row crops with continued heavy irrigation demand. High Plains cotton areas remain dry and hot with subpar crop condition.

NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Northern Plains, recent moderate to heavy rain has improved soil moisture; some flooding also was noted. Additional thunderstorms and rain are in store through the end of the week.

FAVORABLE DELTA SHOWERS

Delta and Southeast crop areas will have periods of showers and thunderstorms through the week. These occurrences will maintain favorable crop prospects.

ADDITIONAL RAIN FOR PRAIRIES

Moderate to locally heavy rain fell across a good portion of the Canadian Prairies over the past several days, including the drier southeast. A couple more storms will move across the region through next week with more isolated showers. Overall, any areas that were concerned over soil moisture have improved while soggy soils in Alberta continue. Coolness will also slow growth in the west through much of this week.

RUSSIA HEAT

In the Black Sea region, the next 10 days feature hot and dry conditions for Russia and Ukraine. This pattern may be stressful to late-stage wheat.

MIXED EUROPE RAIN

In Europe, light to locally moderate rain is in store for Western Europe in the next week. Eastern Europe has moderate to heavy rainfall. Crop conditions look to be generally favorable.

DRY FOR CENTRAL BRAZIL HARVEST

Central Brazil crop areas continue with dry conditions forecast through the week. This drier trend is favorable for additional safrinha corn harvest progress.

MINIMAL CENTRAL ARGENTINA RAIN

In Argentina, concern over soil moisture deficits for the interior central and southern growing areas continues, as does stress on developing winter wheat. Another couple of cold nights are forecast this week across the south as well.

VARIABLE AUSTRALIA RAIN

Across Australia wheat areas, Western Australia has periods of rain ahead through the end of the week. Eastern wheat areas will be drier. Soil moisture will decline in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
