Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- A wet Midwest pattern, and rain indicated to disrupt soybean harvest in central Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

WET MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for rain and snow this week to maintain excessive wet conditions in the southern and eastern Midwest. Travel and transportation delays are also likely in areas which receive heaviest snow. The six-to-10-day time frame offers the prospect of more widespread and heavier precipitation in the region. Flooding concern and the threat of fieldwork and planting delays in spring will increase.

MOISTURE FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, colder conditions return this week, but not cold enough to cause problems for winter wheat or to be very stressful to livestock. Rain and snow in southern areas maintains favorable soil moisture for winter wheat. Also, increasing precipitation during the six to 10 days will bring some risk to livestock, while continuing to improve moisture in wheat areas.

BENIGN NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

Northern Plains areas have a quiet forecast for the next week, with no threat of winter storms or bitter cold.

MIXED CONDITIONS IN BRAZIL

Southern Brazil has a dry and hot pattern indicated through the rest of the week. This will cause soil moisture loss and will be stressful to crops. Meanwhile, moderate-to-heavy rain is likely for central Brazil. This pattern will be unfavorable for harvest, and will lead to disruption in planting of cotton and safrinha corn.

HOT ARGENTINA WEEKEND

Across Argentina, the central crop belt has a dry and hot pattern forecast during the next few days. There is a somewhat better chance for heavier rainfall in the southern and western areas during the next three to five days. Temperatures will moderate with the increased shower threat.

FAVORABLE IN BLACK SEA REGION

Conditions remain favorable for winter crops in Russia and Ukraine. A colder trend in the next week is forecast to be accompanied by the development of snow for both moisture and cover against the cold.
