Spot Ethanol Prices Retreat on Bearish Supply, Demand Data

Spot ethanol prices moved lower Wednesday on bearish data from the Energy Information Administration, which showed a large 600,000 bbl build in domestic ethanol supply to 20.6 million bbl during the week-ended Sept. 23. EIA also showed net refiner and blender inputs of ethanol fell 13,000 bpd during the week profiled to 907,000 bpd, the lowest since input rate since June 3, while reporting plant production climbed 8,000 bpd to 989,000 bpd.

Prompt ethanol supply at the Argo hub in the Chicago market traded early at $1.63 gallon, before changing hands at $1.585 and $1.5825 gallon in afternoon business, down 3.5cts. October ethanol barges at the New York Harbor were pegged at $1.63 gallon, down 3.0cts on the day, with November barges at the Harbor traded at $1.55 gallon, down 0.75cts. California this week shipments were valued at $1.70 gallon, down a penny.
