According to Saskatchewan Agriculture's weekly crop report, an estimated 100% of fall cereals, 92% of spring cereals, 90% of oilseeds and 95% of pulses are rated at or ahead of normal growth stages as of July 16. This is well ahead of last year's pace as well as the average calculated for this week over the past four years and most closely resembles the pace of development realized in 2016, as seen on the attached chart.

As of July 18, 2016, the percentage of the crop rated at or ahead of normal growth stages shows to be behind estimates for the most recent week for both fall cereals and pulse crops, while slightly ahead of the current stage reported for spring wheat and canola.

A larger difference that does exist between the two years is the percentage of the crops rated ahead of normal growth stages in 2016. As of July 18, 2016, 45% of fall cereals were rated ahead of normal (20%), 26% of spring cereals (14%), 24% of oilseeds (14%) and 26% of pulse crops(17%), with the July 16 2018 estimate in brackets.

In the province's crop report for the week ending Aug. 1, 2016, the report indicated that harvest was underway. Winter wheat, peas and lentils were starting to be harvested, while early canola was being swathed.
