Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dogs

You’ll be the star of the cookout with these bacon-wrapped delights, made in a skillet or at the grill. Top with fresh pickle relish, sauerkraut or slaw for extra crunch. (Progressive Farmer photo by Rachel Johnson)

Makes: 6 hot dogs


Prep Time: 15 minutes


Cook Time: 20 minutes


2 to 4 slices center-cut bacon


6 bun-length beef hot dogs


6 hot dog buns


Pickle relish, sauerkraut or slaw for serving

1. In a large cast-iron skillet, cook six slices of bacon over medium-low heat, turning once, until fat is rendered and edges are almost crispy (about 5 minutes). Transfer bacon to a plate; cool. Discard excess bacon drippings, but don’t wash pan.


2. Wrap bacon slices, overlapping, around hot dogs. Break a few toothpicks in half; use to secure ends of bacon.


3. Cook bacon-wrapped hot dogs in same skillet (or in a grill pan) over medium heat, turning often, until bacon is golden and crisp (about 5 minutes). While hot dogs are cooking, warm buns on grill or in oven.


4. Remove toothpicks from hot dogs; serve hot dogs in warmed buns topped with relish, sauerkraut or slaw.
