Colder Pattern Ahead

OMAHA (DTN) -- A colder pattern across the central United States and limited rain prospects for central Brazil are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Tuesday.

COLDER MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a cutoff upper-level system to continue bringing showers to the Midwest through Thursday. Another upper-level system in the West will move through later this week and weekend with more showers. Colder weather moving into the region this week will slow growth on winter wheat and could cause some frost issues for producers who planted early across the north all the way through next week.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS PRECIPITATION

In the Southern Plains, widespread showers are indicated during the last half of the week which will benefit almost all wheat areas. Cold air that precedes and follows this system will slow the development of winter wheat and could also bring some freeze threat to far western areas.

MINIMAL NORTHERN PLAINS DROUGHT EASING

Northern Plains snow and rain continues Tuesday. There has been only slight easing of drought conditions with this moisture. Colder air spreads over the region during the balance of the week to slow down the planting pace. Precipitation later in the week will focus in the southern portion of the region.

DRIER DELTA TREND

The Delta has a drier forecast during this week. The drier trend will allow fieldwork and planting to resume.

VARIABLE SOUTHEAST MOISTURE

The southeastern U.S. will have variable precipitation during the balance of this week. The immediate Gulf Coast will have moderate to heavy rain with flood potential. Areas farther inland will have drier conditions for fieldwork.

CONTINUED PRAIRIES DRYNESS

In the Canadian Prairies, periods of moderate to heavy snow are bringing a slight round of drought easing. However, the overall pattern is still dry with concern for crop moisture this season.

LIGHT BRAZIL RAIN

Central Brazil crop areas have light rain forecast during the balance of the week. Concern remains high for moisture ahead of the onset of the dry season, which has averaged in early May during the past 30 years. Yield prospects for the winter corn crop are unlikely to meet expectations with these conditions.

DRIER FOR ARGENTINA HARVEST

Argentina's pattern turns drier this week to favor harvest progress.
