OMAHA (DTN) -- Mainly favorable conditions in South America and good conditions for the winter wheat crop in the U.S. are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

COLD, WET IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for episodes of wet and cold weather to continue to affect the remaining harvest in the Midwest. Quality issues and some crop losses are expected for soybeans in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.

COLDER IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains will have favorable conditions for winter wheat with adequate soil moisture in all areas. Colder weather this week will slow crop development.

GENERALLY FAVORABLE BRAZIL TREND

Wet weather in central Brazil raises concerns of increasing disease pressure to developing soybeans. There will be favorably drier weather in southern Brazil this week.

DRIER FOR ARGENTINA

Favorably drier weather for planting and developing corn and soybeans will be seen in central Argentina this week. Some scattered frost in southern Buenos Aires on Sunday morning should not have caused any damage to crops.

VARIABLE SOUTH AFRICA TRENDS

The weekend featured warm to hot weather in South Africa with little rainfall. The region should be drier but not very hot early this week. Later in the week, the chance for scattered showers and thundershowers and cooler weather increases, especially through east and some central areas. Conditions currently favor early planted maize through eastern growing areas and developing sugarcane in the southeast. Dryness remains a concern for the western maize areas, possibly delaying the planting effort. The late-week system may bring some rain to these drier western areas, but as indicated the best chance for rain is in the east.
