OMAHA (DTN) — Locally heavy rain ahead for the western Midwest, and dryness threatening Brazil corn production, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

WESTERN MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for favorable planting conditions in the southern and eastern Midwest due to mild temperatures and dry soils. Elsewhere, moderate to heavy rainfall during midweek will slow fieldwork and planting in the western and northern sectors.

MINIMAL SOUTHERN PLAINS PRECIPITATION

Very little rain is indicated for the Southern Plains wheat crop during the next seven days. Crop ratings feature more than half the total wheat crop in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas rating "poor" to "very poor."

DRIER TREND FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains areas will be drier and warmer during the next few days. This combination will improve conditions for planting.

FAVORABLE DELTA TREND

In the Delta, conditions are favorable this week for planting and crop development. Light rain is indicated in the forecast by late week.

DRY PRAIRIES PATTERN

A dry pattern is indicated for the Canadian Prairies during the next week. Temperatures will be cool in the morning with notable warming into the afternoon. The general pattern is favorable for spring field work.

MORE BRAZIL DRYNESS

Brazil's central crop areas continue with a dry trend. Little to no rainfall is expected this week. Dryness is likely to result in reduced production of second-crop corn (safrinha) of close to 20 percent compared with a year ago.
