Dominant Cold Pattern

OMAHA (DTN) -- A cold pattern for spring in the Midwest and Delta, and drought stress in the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

COLD HINDERS MIDWEST FIELDWORK

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for cold weather and wet fields to keep spring fieldwork very slow or completely stalled the rest of this week. Some easing of the cold pattern is indicated during next week; however, periods of showers will lead to further delays in spring fieldwork and early corn planting.

SOUTHERN PLAINS DROUGHT STRESS

Once again, Southern Plains wheat areas have no significant precipitation in store through the next week to 10 days. Crop ratings remain poor and are the lowest in more than 15 years.

VARIABLE DELTA PROSPECTS

In the Delta and Southeast, corn planting is running at or ahead of average despite episodes of wet weather. However, rain at the end of this week and this weekend may slow planting progress.

LIGHT SHOWERS FOR ARGENTINA

Argentina's forecast continues to indicate a few light showers through the end of the week. Very little crop benefit is expected, however, due to the worst drought in decades. Soybean crop loss is extensive.

ROBUST BRAZIL CONDITIONS

Across Brazil, soil moisture for developing second-crop corn in central areas remains favorable with no end to the rainy season in sight. Southern Brazil soybean harvest may have some brief disruptions due to showers.
