Market Impact Weather
Minimal Argentina Rain
OMAHA (DTN) -- Very little rain for Argentina, and ongoing favorable conditions in Brazil, and increasing dryness in the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
ARGENTINA DRY PATTERN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for periods of very hot and dry conditions to increase crop risk in central Argentina. Scattered rainfall Thursday night into Friday morning brought only limited moisture benefit. Concern is noted over the possibility of several million acres of soybeans going unplanted this season due to dryness.
FAVORABLE CENTRAL BRAZIL TREND
Central Brazil continues with a favorable pattern of mild weather and rain. Some private soybean crop projections are now at over 110 million metric tons, second only to the record crop of 2016-17.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN BRAZIL FORECAST
In southern Brazil, crop conditions remain favorable through the next seven days. A chance for drier conditions in the 10-day time frame bears watching.
MILD BUT DRY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS
In the Southern Plains, dry conditions remain in the forecast through the next week to 10 days. Temperatures will trend milder, easing stress to winter wheat. There are no significant concerns for livestock at this time.
MIDWEST COLD WAVE EASES
In the Midwest, the early-2018 cold wave shows more signs of easing during the next week. This will improve conditions for transportation and for soft red winter wheat.
MIXED NORTHERN PLAINS TREND
In the Northern Plains, extreme cold conditions increase stress to livestock for another couple of days. After that a warmer period is in store until next Wednesday. The pattern turns colder again at the end of the week, especially in eastern areas.
HOTTER SOUTH AFRICA TREND
South Africa's crop areas have a hotter and drier forecast through the next five days. The heat will stress crops in the western areas, which have been drier already this season. Eastern areas have more favorable soil moisture to ward off stress.
