Mixed Outlook for Midwest, Rain for Central Brazil
OMAHA (DTN) -- A mainly dry pattern this week to help the harvest in the western Midwest, warmer weather for the Central and Southern Plains, and improving conditions in Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
MIXED CONDITIONS IN MIDWEST
The DTN ag weather forecast for the Midwest calls for episodes of cool, unsettled weather to continue to slow harvest progress during this week. Warmer weather may, at times, help to dry soils out somewhat during the extended range, although this is not certain. For the western Midwest, it will be a mostly dry week, with no significant rain, so this should help harvest efforts. The eastern Midwest will see more chances for precipitation, especially Wednesday and Thursday. In the six- to 10-day outlook for the Midwest, temperatures are expected to average above to near normal west, above normal east. Precipitation should average near to below normal west, and near to above normal east.
WARMER FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
In the Southern Plains, conditions will be favorable for planting and developing winter wheat during this week. Cold weekend weather will likely slow development, while warmer weather this week will be more favorable. A drying trend in the region does bear watching as the crop heads into winter dormancy.

IMPROVING CONDITIONS IN BRAZIL
An improving rainfall pattern for planting and developing soybeans in central Brazil is expected this week, after several weeks of hot, dry weather. Drier weather would benefit planting in southern Brazil, especially in parts of Parana that had heavy thunderstorms this weekend. Conditions are expected to be mainly dry in southern Brazil from Tuesday until Friday or Saturday.
FAVORABLE ARGENTINA OUTLOOK
Argentina's main crop belt will see mostly favorable conditions at this time for planting and development of corn and sunflower and for developing winter wheat. Central Argentina is expected to be dry today and tomorrow, then have showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday until Friday, with a few light showers for Saturday.
DRIER, WARMER IN AUSTRALIA
There's a somewhat drier, warmer period through east-central Australia at this time. This should help improve conditions for mature wheat and wheat harvesting. Soil moisture and warm weather favor development of cotton and sorghum.
PRECIPITATION FOR UKRAINE/SOUTH RUSSIA
Episodes of light-to-moderate precipitation with some heavy precipitation will help recharge soil moisture for winter grains while also delaying any late-autumn fieldwork in Ukraine and south Russia. However, a turn to colder weather will also slow development and limit the chances for improved condition of the crop heading into winter dormancy.
DRIER, HOTTER WEEK AHEAD FOR SOUTH AFRICA
Significant rain activity has been reported in key growing areas of South Africa during October. This should help condition soils for planting. Planting is likely ongoing in the eastern belt. Farmers in the west normally plant later, but some may take advantage of the early moisture and begin planting sooner, rather than later. A drying trend is expected this week, along with potentially hot weather. This may slow down planting and diminish soil moisture.
