Market Impact Weather
Moderating Midwest Temperatures
OMAHA (DTN) -- An easing of heat in the Midwest through the coming weekend and favorable conditions for Southern Plains wheat harvest are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
MILDER MIDWEST FORECAST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a gradual return to more moderate temperatures and increasing shower activity in the Midwest through the coming weekend. The greatest amount of precipitation is indicated for central and eastern sectors. This development offers improved conditions for crops after recent heat and dryness. Rainfall will be lighter in western areas.
SOUTHERN PLAINS HEAT
In the Southern Plains, mostly hot and dry conditions are indicated through the next week. This is favorable for wheat ripening and harvest. This pattern also means more extensive use of irrigation for row crops.
SHOWERS EASE NORTHERN PLAINS STRESS
P[L1] D[0x0] M[300x250] OOP[F] ADUNIT[] T[]
In the Northern Plains, rainfall that has occurred this week will help ease stress in spring wheat and corn areas after dryness has recently become a problem for developing crops, especially reproductive spring wheat. Some areas have done better than others within the region.
VARIABLE PRAIRIES RAIN IMPACT
Moderate to locally heavy rain continues in the Canadian Prairies, with the Wednesday focus in eastern areas. Rain is needed from south and east Saskatchewan through Manitoba due to below- or well-below-normal rainfall during the past 60 days. Rain may still be considered unfavorable in central and north Alberta and northwest Saskatchewan, as it delays fieldwork and promotes wet conditions leading to disease risk.
LIMITED UKRAINE RAINFALL
Light-to-moderate rain continues in the forecast for Ukraine and Russia crop areas over the next five to seven days. The area with rain includes the dry central sector of Ukraine. Precipitation will be welcome.
MIDWEEK DRYNESS IN NORTHEAST CHINA
Hot and dry conditions remain in effect over northeastern China for the next several days. This favors planting progress, but is unfavorable for germination and early development of recently-planted crops. The outlook calls for increasing shower activity and cooler conditions later this weekend through early next week. If verified, this will be a beneficial rain event.
WEEKEND NORTHEAST CHINA SHOWERS
In northeast China, hot and dry conditions remain in effect for the next two days. This favors planting progress but is unfavorable for germination and early development of recently planted crops. The outlook calls for increasing shower activity and cooler conditions later this weekend through early next week. If verified this will be a beneficial rain event.
MORE INDIA MONSOON SHOWERS
India monsoon forecasts suggest that significant rainfall during the next five days may favor northeast India, Bangladesh and the northwest to west-central areas of south India. Little is expected across the north-central India region or in Pakistan during this time. Longer range, the activity looks to pick up in the northern India region through the middle of next week.
