Divergent Planting Prospects
OMAHA (DTN)-- Continued wide variance in Midwest planting conditions, and weekend rain in Europe's wheat areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
MORE VARIABLE MIDWEST CONDITIONS
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a continued notable contrast in fieldwork and planting prospects across the Midwest. Warm and dry conditions in the northwestern Midwest will improve conditions for planting. At the same time, wet and cool conditions in the east and south will continue to slow planting progress.
RAIN AHEAD FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
In the Southern Plains, episodes of showers and warm temperatures favor development of winter wheat in the region during this week.
DRY WEEKEND FOR DELTA
In the Delta, drier and warmer conditions favor seasonal fieldwork. Favorable soil moisture for crop development is well-established.

MILD IN NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, a more favorable weather pattern for planting and early development of crops is in effect at this time.
SHOWERS IN CANADIAN PRAIRIES
In the Canadian Prairies, showers this week will maintain adequate to surplus soil moisture in the region but may slow seasonal fieldwork. Recent warmth has been favorable but it may turn somewhat cooler this week, especially in Manitoba.
FAVORABLE BRAZIL PATTERN
Across Brazil, drier and warmer conditions will favor development of second-crop corn, especially in Mato Grosso do Sul and Parana, following recent rain and cooler temperatures.
ARGENTINA WEEKEND RAIN
In central Argentina, rains during the weekend and again later this week may lead to delays in the harvest of corn and soybeans. Planting of winter wheat following the summer crop harvests may also be delayed. Favorable conditions for planting and early development of winter wheat ae in place through the major growing areas of Buenos Aires and La Pampa.
WEEKEND EUROPE RAIN
Moderate to locally heavy rain occurred in central and southeastern Europe during the past weekend, while light to moderate rain totals were noted in northern and eastern Europe. This precipitation is beneficial for winter wheat, notably in France and northern Italy.
NORTHERN UKRAINE DRYNESS
In Ukraine and Russia, dryness is still a concern in north-central Ukraine for winter and spring planted crops. Elsewhere, a favorable pattern for winter grains and for planting and development of spring grains, including corn, is in place.
