More Rain For Midwest
OMAHA (DTN)-- A new round of rain in the Midwest forecast, and continued issues with snowstorm damage to southern Plains wheat, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.
MORE RAIN FOR MIDWEST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for many Midwest areas to have extensive planting disruption after heavy to very heavy weekend rains along with severe weather. Southern and eastern areas will likely see more rain during the middle of the week. This should likely mean additional planting delays. Local flooding is possible; replanting may be needed.
CHILLY AND WET IN SOUTHERN PLAINS
In the Southern Plains, high winds have caused some lodging of wheat, especially in western areas. Snow also likely caused lodging in some western sections. Cold conditions Sunday and Monday mornings are of some concern for wheat that is further along in development after prior very warm weather. Wet and cold conditions affect planting progress for summer crops.
RAIN AHEAD IN DELTA
In the Delta, heavy weekend rains, strong and damaging winds and hail are unfavorable for winter wheat and emerging corn. Planting delays for soybeans and cotton will be increasing.

MILDER FOR NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, a turn to drier and warmer conditions during this week is promising. This should help improve conditions for planting, especially in the west.
IMPROVED PRAIRIES FORECAST
Drier conditions and warmer conditions should allow for some fieldwork progress in the Canadian Prairies this week. Northern areas remain stymied by wet ground and crops still standing in the field from the 2016 season.
FAVORABLE BRAZIL PATTERN
Light to moderate showers continue to be in store for central and southern Brazil, favorable for the second-crop corn. Recent cool temperatures will slow development for a time in south-central areas. However, temperatures should be warmer during the next week or longer.
BENEFICIAL ARGENTINA TREND
Argentina continue with more favorable weather pattern for maturing summer crops and harvesting this week.
MOSTLY DRY ACROSS UKRAINE
Ukraine and Russia crop areas had a turn to much warmer and mostly dry weather during the weekend and early this week. This should help improve conditions for winter wheat and early-planted spring grains. It could also encourage additional spring planting in south and east Ukraine and South Russia, including corn planting.
