Wet and Cold Midwest
OMAHA (DTN) -- Cold and wet conditions disrupting planting the Midwest, and the potential for freezing conditions in headed wheat areas of the Southern Plains, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.
DISRUPTIVE MIDWEST RAIN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for episodes of rain and a turn to lower temperatures to disrupt corn and soybean planting, notably in the western and northern Corn Belt. Central and east areas will see increasing delays during the period as heavier rainfall develops.
POSSIBLE SOUTHERN PLAINS FREEZE
In the Southern Plains, freezing conditions are possible over the next five days, which may injure heading wheat. The colder pattern along with periods of rain will slow down additional row crop planting, and may damage recently planted seedlings. Ten-day and two-week forecasts suggest a possible drier outlook which would favor planting of spring crops, if verified.
POSSIBLE DELTA FLOODING
The Delta has heavy, flooding rain in the forecast during the next five to seven days. Fieldwork and planting delays are likely with the heavy rain. The heavy precipitation may also threaten winter wheat due to standing water.

SNOW AND COLD IN NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, wet conditions due to rain and snow, along with colder temperatures, will halt fieldwork and planting both for row crops and spring wheat through the next week. More-favorable conditions do not appear in the forecast until around May 5.
WET AND COOL IN PRAIRIES
In the Canadian Prairies, cool to cold weather and an unsettled pattern with light rain and snow will disrupt spring fieldwork in most areas.
MORE CENTRAL BRAZIL SHOWERS
Showers are again featured in the forecast for central Brazil. This activity will continue to be favorable for moisture in second-crop corn areas.
DRY ARGENTINA PATTERN
Argentina will be almost completely dry and wide-open for harvest progress over the next five days.
FAVORABLE UKRAINE PRECIPITATION
Recent rain in South and east Ukraine and South Russia will maintain favorable soil moisture for winter grains and any early planted spring grains. Dryness is still a concern for a portion of central Ukraine, but the area of concern is shrinking. A drier and much warmer pattern is indicated by the end of this week through early next week.
