Market Impact Weather
Central Brazil Rain
OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain forming in central Brazil and hotter and drier conditions in Argentina are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.
MILDER MIDWEST TREND
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly favorable conditions in the Midwest following a rain-and-ice storm during the past weekend. Temperatures will be well above normal, allowing for improved transportation and livestock conditions.
MIXED SOUTHERN PLAINS PRECIPITATION
The Southern Plains will have variable precipitation through the end of the week. Southern sectors will see light to moderate rain, with a drier trend in the northern portion of the region. Drier conditions will allow for repair and recovery in Kansas and Oklahoma following the recent ice storm. The drier trend will also be favorable for livestock and transportation.
MILD IN NORTHERN PLAINS
Across the Northern Plains, there are no significant problems during the next five days as temperatures turn warmer.

VARIABLE BRAZIL RAIN IMPACT
In Brazil, moderate to heavy rain in north-central and northeastern areas occurred during the past weekend, and more is in the forecast during this week. Rain also occurred in southern crop areas. The rain may have caused local flooding along with some harvest disruptions. However, the precipitation also favors second-crop corn in the north and developing soybeans in the south.
DRIER AND HOTTER FOR ARGENTINA
Central Argentina has a drier and hotter trend developing through the end of the week. This combination will generally favor corn and soybeans in Cordoba, Santa Fe and northern Buenos Aires. However, recent very heavy rain and flooding has likely destroyed some significant acreage. Meanwhile, the heat and dryness will further stress crop areas of southern Buenos Aires and La Pampa. Several stations in this sector of Argentina have yet to record any precipitation in January.
MORE EUROPE COLD
Across Europe, recent extreme cold is reported to have caused some problems for unprotected winter grains in Hungary. Very cold conditions, relative to normal, may have also affected specialty crops such as olives and citrus in southern Italy, Greece and the eastern Mediterranean region. Temperatures remain below normal in many areas, well below normal through southern Europe. However, it is not as cold as it was earlier this month.
VARIABLE RUSSIA AND UKRAINE SNOW COVER
Snow cover in Russia and Ukraine shows some notable variability. Russia has generally moderate to heavy snow cover and good protection for wheat from any upcoming cold spells. In Ukraine, south-central and southeastern areas have had recent melting of snow, which puts wheat in a vulnerable position for potential cold-wave damage.
FAVORABLE SOUTH AFRICA TREND
In South Africa, crops will continue to benefit from episodes of scattered thunderstorms and no lasting hot weather.
