OMAHA (DTN) -- A strong winter storm across the central U.S. through the weekend, and flood chances in Argentina, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

WEEKEND MIDWEST STORM

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a major storm system in the northern U.S. to bring wind and rain to the western Midwest during the upcoming holiday weekend. In the eastern Midwest, warmer weather and periods of rain will favor winter wheat during the next five days. There is no significant cold weather threat for the Midwest through the 10-day period.

WARM, MORE RAIN NEEDED IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, temperatures at above- or well-above normal continue with showers during the weekend. Weekend rainfall will not be enough to ease dryness concerns, especially in the very dry western areas. The risk of additional severe cold weather for the region is low during the next 10 days. After that it become more uncertain.

MAJOR WINTER STORM FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

A major winter storm for the Northern Plains remains in the forecast for Sunday with heavy snow and blizzard conditions likely. Snowfall of a foot or more is expected. Seasonally cold weather follows this storm. There is also the prospect of much lower temperatures moving into the region following this weekend's winter storm system.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL TREND

Across Brazil, generally favorable conditions for developing crops remain in effect.

HEAVY ARGENTINA RAIN

In central Argentina, a round of heavy rain during the coming weekend will bring soil moisture to adequate and surplus levels by the end of this weekend. However, some flooding is also likely with these rains.
