OMAHA (DTN) -- Of the 40 locations DTN contacted that showed spot offers for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) for the week ended July 16, prices were mixed again, but $2 lower on average at $128 per ton versus the prior week.

The DTN National Corn Index was 17 cents lower versus one week ago, adding pressure to corn by product and coproduct feed prices. As plant production increases, DDG supplies are more readily available, but demand hasn't been keeping up, especially given the extreme hot weather so far this summer as well as competition from other feed products.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended July 16 was 108.52%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 44.60%. The cost per unit of protein for DDG was $4.74, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.04.

The Energy Information Administration said ethanol inventory was slightly lower for the week ended July 10 as demand slid over 3% and production climbed to the highest level in 16 weeks. At 20.608 million barrels (bbl), domestic ethanol stocks eased 12,000 bbl week over week while at a 12% year-over-year supply deficit. Ethanol plant production continued higher, up 17,000 barrels per day (bpd) in the week profiled to 931,000 bpd, the highest level since the week ended March 20 and down 135,000 bpd or 12.7% against a year ago. Four-week average output is down 156,000 bpd against a year ago at 910,000 bpd.
